Once you've sent your request for an appointment here's what happens
Once you've requested an appointment, I'll be in touch to get all the information I need. To speed up this process please fill in this form. An estimated cost can be given, but please bear in mind that this may vary due to many different factors.
Then I'll ask you to pay a retainer of £20 per cat, and complete a consent form. After these are received I'll send you an email, and you can consider your appointment confirmed. If after meeting you and your cat I'm happy to carry on into the services/s needed, the retainer will be deducted from the final charge.
Retainers are refundable or transferable if you cancel with 2+ days notice. Cancellations within 2 days are non-refundable.
Dates given are fixed, but the time of your appointment might vary. Both cats and traffic can be unpredictable so please understand that I want to give each cat the same time and respect as I will give to yours. You will be updated as much as I can update you on the day. With this in mind please try to avoid booking when you have a pressing engagement close to the appointment.
On the day of the appointment try to keep your cat/s indoors, and before I arrive you will need to ensure they are in an enclosed, preferably quiet, calm space with no or few hiding spots. Small rooms and/or bathrooms are often ideal. It's your responsibility to make sure your cat is in place for when I arrive, please don't ask me to chase your cat down. Ideally set the space up well before I arrive as stressing them out will make grooming extremely challenging for us all.
When working with multiple cats it isn't always ideal to have one present whilst the other is groomed as it can increase stress in both of them. If possible keep the other cat/s in a separate space until the first groom has finished.
I ask you to provide a towel, as it will have your scent on it, not alien smells that cause confusion, or other cat scents that cause stress. I will bring everything else I need with me.
At an initial appointment I will meet you, and you'll show me to the room you've set aside for the appointment, give me the towel and I'll take a few minutes to attempt an introduction with your cat. Assuming this isn't horribly received, I'll check your cat over for condition to make a decision about what the priorities are. Once this is done, we'll chat and decide what to attempt. You are very welcome to stay with me whilst I'm grooming, but I do ask that you don't interfere unless specifically asked to. Cats can become unpredictable when stressed and if I'm attempting to clip around a rear end and you reach out to comfort your baby, that's the moment you'll likely end up bearing the brunt of their fear and anger. Also, if it's a crucial time for them to remain still. I understand it's natural to want to soothe them, but let me take the flack; you get to remain the good guy and be ready with treats for them afterwards!
Your ideas of what you'd like doing and mine, as well as your cats, might vary. For example: If you think they need stomach trim, but I can see their claws are overgrowing and they have matts that need removing, those will be my first priority as the cats comfort is foremost. I don't mean to say I'll ignore what you want, just that cat welfare is the heart of what I do and that's what I consider most important. Please work with me in this, I will never undertake unnecessary services.
Cats have a limit of tolerance that's absolutely non-negotiable. Do I push their limits if I feel like I can get away with it? Absolutely! But, when your cat is done, the appointment is done. Often when a cat and I are new to each other the trust level is lower, so if we can complete the groom, then that's amazing and I will do so. If not we'll arrange a new suitable time for me to return and complete the rest. Often cats new to grooming need this, as do cats who have been groomed previously and had a bad time. There will be no extra charge for this, however travel costs will need to be covered.
When the appointment finishes, I will release the cat. Please just let them go, they need to know they're free to leave and therefore safe. Often they don't go far, or return of their own free will, which is the ideal time to reward them with treats.
I will clean up as best as I can, leaving as little waste as possible. I ask that you dispose of gloves, fur etc.
Payment is expected promptly afterwards, with bank transfer (preferred method), cash, and card payment accepted. Retainers will be removed from the final total.
Hopefully we will then rebook for a suitable time in roughly 6-8 weeks to help keep them in great condition, and to build the required trust, so they can enjoy their lives happy and fulfilled!
If the appointment cannot go ahead due to the cat being too aggressive or even just too stressed, you may need to contact your vet to see if they will prescribe anything to help. Some cats just won't allow themselves to be groomed, however many learn do to tolerate it since it feels so good afterwards.
